This was a good evening and I am glad we went but there are some things that could have been better. 1. It was entitled a "Fireside" event which makes you think of cosy settings - the event was held it a large function room with lots of big tables and lots of empty seats. I think once the numbers were known some tables could have been removed to bring everyone together. 2. The talk on Carving a rump was interesting but hard to see from the back of the room. But whole talk was on rump and we had hoped that lots of different types of steak would have been discussed and contrasted - there were steaks on the serving plate that had not been mentioned in the talk. 3. There was nothing covered on how to cook or serve a steak (even though that was in the event description) 4. When the steak was served it was just deposited as a massive mass of meat and the servers were not totally sure which one was which. Perhaps some labels on the plate? Or even better... why not cook and serve them one by one with commentary from the hosts on what we were tasting? 5. Once the meal was served, the hosts sat down at one table to eat and so no other tables could ask or discuss what we were eating. I know they need to eat too but it would have been nice if one of them could have been circulating at any one time to talk to guests about the steaks. 6. There was not presence from the team at the Crown itself. I would have thought the Crown would have wanted to use it as an opportunity to market the venue too... perhaps an introduction to the evening from a manager... perhaps a hotel chef coming out to talk about the cooking of the steaks at the Crown... perhaps a small voucher to encourage guests to come back and eat in the restaurant.
